anime is depressing.

July 22nd, 2010

Been reading manga, something rare for me.

Nurarihyon no Mago Episode 01

It’s Negi!

After getting past that… this anime seems to be interesting. Also, my computer is actually having a bit of trouble decoding this video… that’s a testament to the AWESOME. ANIMATION. QUALITY. Or maybe it’s just that this is a really HQ rip. Really really HQ.

Oh my god… the high quality animation!! Aahhhhh! IT BURNS! SO DETAILED!!!! SO BRIGHT! SO BRILLIANT!

WHY IS EVEN THE EYECATCH SO SCINTILLATING? This animation is totally world-class.

The opening was awesome, but the ending animation annoys me. Nothing wrong with the song, but annoying animation.

You know, after all of this, I never caught the main character’s name. o_O

I approve of this anime's lead female.

Shakugan no Shana S Episode 03

Why is this so sad? My life is already sad enough without depressing anime.

That was very depressing. Oh, and sucky music.

Nurarihyon no Mago Episode 02

I can’t believe I just noticed that Yui Horie voices Yuki-onna/whatsherhumanname. I fail as a Yui Horie fan.

Anyways, more surprisingly: the (other) lead female is voiced by none other than Aya Hirano, of Haruhi fame! That was pretty interesting.

As usual, the lead male is voiced by Jun Fukuyama, whom I’m sure everybody is most familiar with as Lelouch/Zero from Code Geass. He also voices every other male protagonist ever. Seriously.

Oh yeah, I remembered her name. It was Tsurara, which is totally a portmanteau of Tsuruya (Haruhi) and Durarara!!.

Shakugan no Shanatan Tri

Seitokai Yakuindomo Episode 01

Here’s my generic harem anime of the season.

This season’s is pretty good. I can’t say anything for originality (the prez reminds me of Kaichou wa Maid-sama), but… excellent animation, great character design and, damn good humor.

Actually, there are too many perverted jokes. You know, this is exactly like Seitokai no Ichizon! Except the jokes are ecchi(er), the animation is better, and the lead male isn’t a loser.

Seitokai Yakuindomo Episode 02

The chibikko looks and feels like Nagi with stupid bangs. The ending theme is pretty bad.

Asobi ni Iku yo! Episode 02

Nice action! The sci-fi counts me in, but again, the female contact scenes make me want to drop this.

CIA + US Army VERSUS cat-girl with big hammer. Winner: cat-girl with big hammer.

Awesome plot. Now if only they’d ditch the fanservice. Oh, and they should make the alien weapons look less stupid.

The Japanese impression of Americans speaking Japanese always cracks me up. ><

An Interesting Title

April 18th, 2010
Information: I am about 10 episodes behind on all the Winter 2010 animes I was following, and I still haven’t finished the Fall 2009 animes I was following. My first impressions on the new Spring 2010 animes will come in a later post (even though it’s about already the 2nd week of Spring 2010).

Anime sucks.

HEY YU!

Shakugan no Shana S Episode 02 — One of the best things about watching an anime… when you come back to it again, it feels so fresh, so nostalgic, and so pleasant.

Is what I would like to say… but this episode was 99.975% pointless. A waste of half an hour.

Shakugan no Shanatan Dos — ehh not funny

Higurashi no Naku Koro ni Special – Nekogoroshi-hen — Lol.

Durarara!! Episode 12 — It turns out this anime was actually 24 episodes, so this isn’t the climax. Wahahaha.

Fairy Tail Episode 24 — eh this is getting too typical and cliche. Like, nothing’s happening happening.

BakaTest Episode 11 — OMG I finally have time to catch up on BakaTest, the awesomest anime this season.

The Sacred Blacksmith Episode 11 — playing the catch-up game. Hmmm… horrible animation, horrible voice actiong, horrible plot, horrible dialogue, horrible everything x____x

The Sacred Blacksmith Episode 12 FINAL — so like why am I still watching this.

Her sword is sexy.

Is what I would say, but it sounds quite weird out of context.

Seiken no Blacksmith / The Sacred Blacksmith FINAL REVIEW

I’m back to simple final reviews. The balance of points is probably highly inaccurate, but too bad. Also, my ratings seem to have gotten harsher or something… I didn’t expect a D.

Characters 0/2 | Plot 0/2 | Setting 1/2 | Music 1/2 | Art 1/2

3/10 D

Durarara!! Episode 13 — Oh my god epic new intro song.

Anri’s voice is so touching. If only she didn’t wear glasses, then I’d like her. Anyways… this episode: Introducing, the Traffic Police Force! And… Shinra’s dad is crazy. OMG Russian!

That ending… was… wow. And the ending song :3 DRRR is still running strong~

Ookamikakushi Episode 08 — I heard this anime really sucked.

Fairy Tail Episode 25 — New OP song? really?

Elfman is cool. Touching moment is not touching. In Soviet Russia, moment touching YOU!! No wait, that’s not right…

Flying kitty crying is cute. Aye! Juvia is stupid, and her whole scene-thing is stupid, and everything is stupid. Gray is awesome, though. I think I like the new ED. Next episode looks like fun things will happen.

Omamori Himari Episode 12 FINAL

Why did I watch this anime all the way through. I want the 6 hours I wasted on this back.

Omamori Himari FINAL REVIEW

The final episode was so horrible…

Characters 1.5/2 | Plot 0/2 | Setting 0.5/2 | Music 2/2 | Art 1.5/2

Meikyuu Butterfly - Nana Mizuki

See, I’m capable of coming up with creative names for my anime posts.

Firstly, Shakugan no Shana S, the four-part OVA leadup to the long-awaited third season of mega-popular anime Shakugan no Shana, is now out in Blu-ray and DVD. J.C. Staff just released the first episode, Reshuffle.

Other than the normal Thursday/Friday-ish lineup of things like Kampfer, Shin Koihime Musou, Umineko no Naku Koro ni, etc, I’m still watching Shugo Chara!. If the anime is longer than, say, 30 episodes, usually I lose interest after the first half.

However, like Ranma 1/2, Shugo Chara! and Shugo Chara!! Doki have captured my inner fanboy and, like Hayate no Gotoku, combine interesting episodic storylines with a larger major plotline. Of course, there’s no missing the Hayate-like humor that’s scattered throughout Shugo Chara! either.

Now, on to the episodic reviews.

Shakugan no Shana S Episode 01 “Reshuffle” – This felt like a standard Shana episode; however, I haven’t watched Shana for months or years. It felt good to experience a new Shana episode.

As for the content of the episode, it wasn’t particularly breathtaking, epic, or even fantastic. I think just the feeling of new Shana satisfied me. However, I won’t give it something in the S to SS range like the animes, because it wasn’t that good, particuarly. Actually, since it’s called Shakugan no Shana “S”, maybe I should give it an S anyways. S-. [8.5/10]

Shakugan no Shanatan Revenge – YESS! As usual, Shanatan is better than Shakugan no Shana itself. Index and Nagi (from To Aru Majutsu no Index and Hayate no Gotoku! respectively) make hilarious cameos… and… just, everything is hilarious. Of course. SS-. [9.5/10]

On second thought, I downgrade the actual Shana S episode to an AA. [7/10] Yeah, too bad. Compared to Shanatan (which doesn’t really deserve a 10/10, so it gets 9.5), Shakugan no Shana has to be like at least ranks below Shanatan.

WHERE ISH MY Hayate-tan no Gotoku!! series? >_____>

Also, awaiting Railgun-tan. They’re gonna do it, right? Haha.

*~*~*~*~*~*~*

Kampfer Episode 04 – “Make me feel good!” Wtf? Why do they need to remind us that this is from a dating sim?

However, the Student Council President has an interesting side. The stupid stuffed animals, I still hate their guts (no pun intended).

So many good voice actors in this anime, but such a sucky anime. I like the genderbender aspect, but… um… yeeahhh. What’s with the sexual connotations that everybody thinks are behind everything Natsuru-san says?

So. An interesting anime… where we watch… boys… shop for… female underwear… and lingerie………

In this episode… we learned:

  • How to put on a bra.
  • How to choose female underwear in Japan.
  • Factoid: When guys attain sex appeal, the emotional trauma will take decades to heal.
  • Factoid: Student council presidents generally suck at singing. Hinagiku-san (Hayate/2) is an exception, because Itou Shizuka is beyond awesome.
  • Factoid: Every anime, as a rule, MUST include a Macross reference. “Atashi no uta wo kike!!!!
  • How to confess your love for a person of the same sex.

… just… because… it was kind of… um… let’s go with an A. [6/10]

The outro (and intro) I really like. I wonder when the final main character will be introduced; she’s cute.

Umineko no Naku Koro ni Episode 17 – “All magic exists to bring happiness to the human world.”

Best line in the entire anime so far, considering what has happened in this anime so far >_< So terribly ironic.

Beato’s character change is just TOO huge to bear. Just three or four episodes ago she was like “HAHAHAHA KILL MURDER SLAUGHTER” and now she’s all being a crybaby and weak and nice and… this just feels awkward.

What the hell is with the “Siestas”? They’re so goddam moe, they don’t belong in this anime. Their animations are stupid too. It feels more like Digimon than the Nanoha-like feel they were probably aiming for.

Of course, seeing them die is never fun, but we see like 10-20 people die per episode so you get used to it.

OMG we finally see Ange! For… like… a half-second flashback.

Jessica looked like Shion or Rena from Higurashi in that one moment. ^^

I still like Higurashi better. Boring episode. The morals they were trying to convey didn’t really reach me. Maybe it’s because… I can’t use magic… B. [5/10]

Shin Koihime Musou Episode 03 – They finally added Ryuubi to the opening! Which, by the way, is EPIC. If not for Seitokai no Ichizon, it might be my favorite OP this season. KIZUNA, ATSUI KIZUNA~

So they go to visit Kousonsan… wait, who’s Kousonsan? [/runninggag] but lol, Enshou VS Kousonsan… hahaha.

Ryuubi is so cute+awesome.

The “competition” gets a bit… uhh… yeah…. in the 2nd round.

This falls in the "WTF!?" category, too.

This falls in the "WTF!?" category, too.

Of course, we can’t have Koihime without some perverted stupid scenes.

This is how Ancient Chinese lords and viceroys settled their disputes with each other in the Three Kingdoms era.

You know, I miss Bachou already.

SS (it’s that good). [10/10]

Yes, the only reason I love it this much more than Koihime Musou itself is ‘cuz of Ryuubi. <3

*~*~*~*~*~*~*

I miss -Saki-. It was my weekly dose of mahjong and random yuri, but it was still really great. Hopefully another season comes along soon. As for Bakemonogatari, I realize I haven’t even finished watching it. I don’t really miss Kanamemo or Sora no Manimani, either. Of course, obviously I miss Hayate2, but that’s so popular there won’t be a problem getting another season. I guess I miss Tayutama, waay back from Spring 2009. Well, I don’t really miss the anime; I miss the intro song <3333

Short anime update

October 9th, 2009

Again, I’ll make these as short as possible. (Some of them really deserve long/er, though.) As usual, click for high-resolution versions.

This is what Japanese humans do at parks in the spring. *nodnod*

I’ve never looked into the manga for this, and I watched the first ep without really knowing what to expect. Well, I must say. I was totally amazed. Another dazzling CLAMP success.

Above all else, the excellent animation quality, voice acting, etc… the best part of this episode might have been Kobato’s singing. The intro and outro songs were also both spectacular (and I found the ED animation interesting, lol).

This anime is mostly humor, so there’s nothing to interpret or discuss here (that’s why the next post is so much longer than this one, lol). Highly recommended anime, although we’ll see how the next episode turns out.

This is what hell looks like.

空の落し物 – Sora no Otoshimono / Heaven’s Lost Property

Okay… all the characters are cute and well-rounded. The characters are probably the best part of this anime.

Sugita Eishirou

Sugita Eishirou

At least it won’t be the plot. The first half of episode 01 took place at school, and I found it an extremely hilarious school life comedy. I especially liked the (male) character of Sugita Eishirou (at right). He’s so weird and quirky, and he gives off that Mikhail (Macross F) feel, especially with the hair, speech mannerisms, and glasses.

The protagonist’s view towards life is fascinating. I believe it will be either a main part of the story’s theme, or it will be something that the protagonist will forget during the course of the story, and the in the end, he will remember his original perspectives and reflect on them.

(the translation makes this sound lame.)

(the translation makes this sound lame.)

His view towards life is compounded by the fact that he acts extremely childish. I suppose that’s a fun type of main character to have, but it does become annoying at times. His personality is so totally immature, it seems this anime will be a meaningful watch, if we get to follow the development of this guy’s life.

Smart.

Smart.

Also, I love Student Council President characters (and yes, it’s Hina’s fault), and this anime has an interesting President as well (at right). The opening wasn’t aired for the first episode, so I don’t know whether or not there will be any more characters, but this cast isn’t half bad. I’ve seen worse.

Tomoki (protagonist) as immature brat who suddenly found a girl and now can do anything he wants.

Tomoki (protagonist) as immature brat.

Also, some romance would be nice. Girl at left is really cute (childhood friend characters ftw). The weird girl who fell from the sky (she’s the “Lost Property” I’m guessing?) is cute too, I guess, but her chest is too big and she’s too blank and empty to be very fun. Normally, in these sorts of stories, I guess the robot/fairy/otherwise personality-less (I’m thinking Rei/Evangelion or Yuki/Haruhi, those kinds of characters) falls in love with the protagonist and eventually develops a personality. Or not necessarily. Seeing her grow a personality out of thin air might be interesting.

Ooops... what was that about not being able to cancel orders?

Ooops... what was that about not being able to cancel orders?

11eyes

This may be last, but don’t let that mislead you. This is totally going to be the next Shakugan no Shana. I swear, the first episode looked that appealing.

The main character’s coolness is pleasant. The eyepatch looks really weird, but I don’t mind it. Hopefully he gets rid of it soon, though. His childhood friend is extremely cute and sweet. She’s almost a copy of whatshername from Shana… um…

Anyways, I don’t quite get it (and I like it when I don’t quite get it, because that foreshadows an wide, epic plot). Did his sister… suicide… or… what happened… and she killed him? or something? or what? And who is this girl? And who’s that guy? So many characters that we see in the first episode, and it’s going to be an enjoyable journey learning the pasts of these many characters, as I’m sure we will.

I don’t feel like adding screenshots. Go watch this yourself.

*~*~*~*~*~*~*

This week’s Kampfer: boring compared to first episode. I hope they don’t keep this up.

This week’s To Aru Kagaku no Railgun: guys, I don’t care about Kuroko. She can go to the corner of her room and die a horrible bloody death for all I care. Why dedicate the second episode of the series to her? C’mon, start off the plot already! Isn’t that what the To Aru series is all about?

Side note though, I found Touma’s cameo interesting, but did this scene occur in Index? Wasn’t Misaka and Touma’s first meeting originally on a bridge? Actually, in fact, I don’t quite get the timespan and timeperiod of Railgun compared to Index. Is this during, before, or after most of the events in the Index anime?
