You can’t have your cake and eat it too. That is because… THE CAKE IS A LIE!!!!

Demonbane Episode 01

It’s Shanatan!

All right, it looks like we’re back on track with good anime that’s worth watching. Hopefully.

Is that a diaper?

It’s an Eva! IT’S SO TOTALLY AN EVA!!!

Demonbane Episode 06

I liked this anime so much at first. Unfortunately, the plot might as well not exist, as the whole show is pretty much an excuse to display (awesome) giant mechas and use random cool-sounding terminology from the Cthulhu Mythos. I do really like the H. P. Lovecraft references, and the art is quite enjoyable, but I wish this series was 26 episodes or longer, so the scriptwriters could have enough time to add in most of the plot they presumably left out from the game. Oftentimes, between one episode and the next, a few months of less important plot points are skipped over.

I believe this anime would have made a good long-running shounen series. It’s just too bad that it turned out to be this kind of 3D-graphic-artist bragging-rights anime.

Kanokon Episode 04

Can I suicide myself in a puddle yet? Can I?

As a side note, I think I’m getting to like the intro.

Demonbane Episode 07

The twelve-episode anime series Demonbane: otherwise known as 12 Reasons Why You Shouldn’t Fall in Love with a Book. I like my creative name better than the original.

Demonbane Episode 08

Rhetorical question of the day. Can books die?

Demonbane Episode 09

I can’t help but believe that all this great animation is wasted on this plot… or lack thereof.

Demonbane Episode 11

The staff for this anime must have consisted of 500 world-class artists and animators… and one pea-brained H. P. Lovecraft-obsessed scriptwriter.

I worship the character design, 3D animation, and voice acting. However… what kind of a lame script is this. That single scriptwriter must have been drunk on top of his mental retardation. Do Japanese get Down syndrome?

Even an H. P. Lovecraft enthusiast would commit seppuku after watching this anime, I think.

I have reason to believe that all the characters in this anime are on crack.

This summarizes the entire anime.

Demonbane Episode 12 FINAL

I won’t comment about the cheesy “I love you” scene. It’s funny how epic the graphics are, and how lame the script is. It strikes horror into my fragile heart.

Hm, but at least the ending is meaningful, unlike most anime endings. I’ll admit that I liked the princess best, but all that pairing got was one cheap kiss.

Demonbane THE OVA

Why is this OVA ten times better than the 12-episode anime. I guess they switched out the drunk-scriptwriter-who-was-on-crack for a real scriptwriter.

“It’s show time!” <– reminds me of that guy from Digimon Savers.

THIS IS SO MUCH BETTER THAN THE ANIME. Dammit. They need to remake Demonbane like this. Lemuria Impact is also much less lame (although it’s still epicly overpowered).

End of Spring 2010

August 1st, 2010

I started out watching like ten of this season’s animes, by now it’s narrowed down to just, like… what, three or four?

[DAMNN sorry… this was supposed to be posted a month ago. Hehe.]

Angel Beats Episode 13 FINAL

God… why is this final episode so stupid. Yuri’s kawaii personality is really headdesk-inducing. Kanade being normal is cute. Everything else… oh god. Head keeps moving towards desk instinctively. Trying to protect my brain cells.

The rest of the episode after the graduation ceremony better be epic. Especially how they suddenly switch between uncalled-for humor and omfg tragedy end of anime soliloquy. Was that a love confession fro– ok it was. Heart. gg.

That plot twist was kind of unexpected… the heart donation acceptor was… (spoiler) Kanade… This ep lacked epicness. Sequel anyone?

This anime gets something like an AA. Priceless empathetic heart-breaking moments, mixed in with the worst of Japanese stupidity. If they had made a better ending, this could have gotten an SS, or even an SSS.

Mayoi Neko Overrun Episode 12 FINAL

Yeah, Fumino really has the right to tell other people to be straightforward and honest. The randomness of this anime is great, although I still think Sora no Otoshimono was better in terms of randomness. For overall plot and romansu, I’d prefer Nyan Koi. The sentimentality isn’t very well-done. The art is okay and there are too many characters.

The final plot with Nozomi was pretty good. Somebody still needs to explain why she has nekomimi. Takumi is being lame. Great ending (especially after watching Angel Beats‘ really lame one). Kaho didn’t show up? Well.

This anime gets something like an A+. Great mindless humor.

Utawarerumono Episode 01~02

First impression: Awesome. Doggy. Ears. I’d watch this anime just for the doggy ears. This anime is made by the same people as Tears to Tiara, and that was pretty good, so I expect nice things from Utawarerumono. Unfortunately, unlike Arawn/Arthur from TtT, the lead male (or at least I’m guessing that guy’s the lead male) is horribly ugly. That mask is marring my enjoyment of this anime.

Not only is the lead female (or at least I am assuming she is the lead female) doggy-ear+tailed, there’s also a doggy-ear imouto! Can the female cast get any better? J/k ><

Doggy-ears feels like she’s already married to Masked Lead Male. Awwww. Also, why does everyone call Masked Lead Male “kid”? He looks old and ugly. And then the two Doggy-ear siblings start calling Masked Lead Male father, and Old Lady gives him their father’s name. If this review looked long, realize that the only event that occurred in these two episodes was them killing Mutikapa.

Kateikyoushi Hitman Reborn! Episode 01-14

From the wikipedia summary, this anime sounded like paradise to me — all the elements of a long-running shounen series that I like. Unfortunately (at least judging from the first 13), it ain’t that awesome. The intro and outro are pretty good. I don’t like most of the characters. Tsuna, the lead male, is okay, but I’d like to see some character development from him. The kids are all ugly and annoying, and Tsuna’s “family” consists of weird people. Kyouko is pretty cute, but I must admit I really do like Haru and her eccentric… everything. Last but certainly not least… Reborn, the grade-school Italian mafia hitman…

It’s not just the opening and ending themes that are good… I really like the “Italian mafia movie” BGM that features in much of this anime. The jazzy feel is just such a nice, welcome contrast to typical anime background music.

So in conclusion, this anime feels more like a comedy than a shounen series.

Kateikyou Hitman Reborn! Episode… uhh… up to 52-ish

The first “arc”, if you will, was really more comedy and status-quo slice-of-life than shounen. But… once we get into the action, we discover the true beauty of this anime. It’s quite like, say, Law of Ueki in how it features the protagonists against impossible situations. In fact, that’s a staple of the shounen genre, but I don’t need to mention that I really like those storylines. The music is really, really good. The OPs and EDs are fantastic for the most part (I dislike a few of them), and the BGM really fires you up in those climax moments.

yet another anime post

July 29th, 2010

ahhhnn.

Seitokai Yakuindomo Episode 4

I like the intro song.

I don’t like the outro song.

Demashita! Powerpuff Girls Z Episode 01

what is this i don’t eve– Blossom is cute.

*dropped* why did I even pick this up

Hitohira Episode 01

The main character is really original.

Hm, how would I describe this first episode. It’s like CLANNAD, without Tomoya and co.

Inukami! Episode 01

Somebody assassinate the lead male for not being in love with somebody voiced by Yui Horie.

Youko is cute though, so maybe I won’t drop this one. Hocchan~ >< damn this reminds me of how I failed to get her autograph at AX2010

Summary: Everything sucks about this anime but Yui Horie and her character. I think I’mma drop after all. I hate the main character’s guts.

Fairy Tail Episode 39

Yay, Mikuni Shimokawa’s ED single is out today! Back to the anime; last episode left us on quite a cliffhanger.

Etherion turned out lamer than I thought. The idea was cool.

“Breaking things happens to be Fairy Tail wizards’ specialty!”

Damn, cliffhanger.

11eyes Episode 13 [OVA]

Awesomesauce.

Kanokon Episode 01

Wtf awesome, Kawasumi Ayako voices the lead female. WTFFF awesome, Mamiko Noto voices the lead… MALE. WAHAHAHA ok I’ll stop here

The awesomesauce voices and art are awesomesauce, but what is with the rapid plot development. And sudden outbreaks of histronics. And the shouta little 5-year-old boy who’s “in high school” voiced by Mamiko Noto only complicates things. I keep imagining “ecchi-na-koto-wa-ikenai” Mahoro from Mahoromatic due to Kawasumi Ayako’s voice as well. Anyways, concerning the plot…

That made sense.

… NOT.

Asura Cryin’ Episode 01

This anime looks extremely promising. Watching with high expectations.

Damn. Best first episode of an anime I’ve watched in AGES.

Asura Cryin’ Episode 02

As epic as above.

Kanokon Episode 02

“I may get pregnant if I get too close to him.”

#include <stdharem.c>

Asura Cryin’ Episode 03 to 06

This is getting boring… wahh, why can’t I find any exciting animes anymore?

Nurarihyon no Mago Episode 04

Best anime this season, by far.

On an unrelated note, why doesn’t CoreAVC’s postprocessing get rid of that horrible debanding? Is free software really better than commercial software? I’m pretty sure ffdshow’s postprocessing far surpasses this horrible crap software. And plus, CoreAVC crashes like every other time I try to play a video, dammit.

anime is depressing.

July 22nd, 2010

Been reading manga, something rare for me.

Nurarihyon no Mago Episode 01

It’s Negi!

After getting past that… this anime seems to be interesting. Also, my computer is actually having a bit of trouble decoding this video… that’s a testament to the AWESOME. ANIMATION. QUALITY. Or maybe it’s just that this is a really HQ rip. Really really HQ.

Oh my god… the high quality animation!! Aahhhhh! IT BURNS! SO DETAILED!!!! SO BRIGHT! SO BRILLIANT!

WHY IS EVEN THE EYECATCH SO SCINTILLATING? This animation is totally world-class.

The opening was awesome, but the ending animation annoys me. Nothing wrong with the song, but annoying animation.

You know, after all of this, I never caught the main character’s name. o_O

I approve of this anime's lead female.

Shakugan no Shana S Episode 03

Why is this so sad? My life is already sad enough without depressing anime.

That was very depressing. Oh, and sucky music.

Nurarihyon no Mago Episode 02

I can’t believe I just noticed that Yui Horie voices Yuki-onna/whatsherhumanname. I fail as a Yui Horie fan.

Anyways, more surprisingly: the (other) lead female is voiced by none other than Aya Hirano, of Haruhi fame! That was pretty interesting.

As usual, the lead male is voiced by Jun Fukuyama, whom I’m sure everybody is most familiar with as Lelouch/Zero from Code Geass. He also voices every other male protagonist ever. Seriously.

Oh yeah, I remembered her name. It was Tsurara, which is totally a portmanteau of Tsuruya (Haruhi) and Durarara!!.

Shakugan no Shanatan Tri

what is this i don’t even

Seitokai Yakuindomo Episode 01

Here’s my generic harem anime of the season.

This season’s is pretty good. I can’t say anything for originality (the prez reminds me of Kaichou wa Maid-sama), but… excellent animation, great character design and, damn good humor.

Actually, there are too many perverted jokes. You know, this is exactly like Seitokai no Ichizon! Except the jokes are ecchi(er), the animation is better, and the lead male isn’t a loser.

Seitokai Yakuindomo Episode 02

The chibikko looks and feels like Nagi with stupid bangs. The ending theme is pretty bad.

Asobi ni Iku yo! Episode 02

Nice action! The sci-fi counts me in, but again, the female contact scenes make me want to drop this.

CIA + US Army VERSUS cat-girl with big hammer. Winner: cat-girl with big hammer.

Awesome plot. Now if only they’d ditch the fanservice. Oh, and they should make the alien weapons look less stupid.

The Japanese impression of Americans speaking Japanese always cracks me up. ><

Summer 2010 (Anime) is here!!

July 17th, 2010

As you can see, EVERY. SINGLE. ONE. Has sucked. This makes me want to suicide myself in a puddle.

Ookami-san Episode 01

The hell?

… what the hell.

First thing I notice about the characters: the narrator is Kuroko (srsly), the wolf-girl is Mikoto, her roommate is Uiharu, and… hmm, we need a Saten. The lead male is a pitiful bum (the narrator said so herself, so it must be fact).

The hell is wrong with this anime. But screw it, this is funny, so it’s okay.

Final comment: my favorite character is the narrator.

Ok, now final comment. This lead male is the most loser-like protagonist I’ve ever seen.

Actually, actually. Now final comment. I really like the fairytale-inspired storyline of this anime. It’s so original, yet completely unoriginal. It’s original in how unoriginal it is. This episode’s Cinderella pun was laugh-inducing, for example.

Digimon Xros Wars Episode 01

What the hell, Tengen Toppa Gurren Lagann? MY DRILL WILL PIERCE THE HEAVENS?? Oh wait, that was just a dream.

This year’s goggle-boy looks OK. The secondary boy and girl look really lame though. They remind me of Misty and Brock, actually. That’s rather unfortunate.

I appreciate the attempt at making pleasing 3d graphics, but mecha? really? really. By the way, lame music.

Whaa Taichi clone? I’m not sure what to say… “AWESOME!!!” or “kehh. lame.” He has a girlfriend in, what, he looks like a first grader or something. Less than thirteen. Haha. God. These characters are lame. laaaaammmmmeeeeeeee

I guess the even seasons of Digimon are destined to be lame. =_=

the hell. serious? gattai mecha…

bleeehhhhhhh. laaaaaaammmmmmmmmeeeeeeeeeee

Asobi ni Iku Yo Episode 01

It’s like ToLOVE-ru all over again, except with Full Metal Panic! elements mixed in. I miss ToLOVE-ru. I highly doubt this anime will be able to surpass TLr. The animation/art quality are all pretty good… not particularly amazing though. Too many people with glasses in this anime.

I don’t like any of the characters. Not a single one. Not one. That just killed this anime for me. Ending song is pretty good.

brb after I go kill god.

June 19th, 2010

hai, it’s summer.

Mayoi Neko Overrun Episode 08

Parodying -Saki-? Really. XD

Although I really love the super-high-quality animation, the storyline of this anime has gone down exponentially. However. Epic animation quality. Epic Yui Horie as announcer and peppy ponytail girl. Epic funny moments. Some of the time. I still like all of the characters, however (like Airantou and Tears to Tiara etc), so the lowest rating this will get is like an AA.

Wow, this episode was actually good.

Angel Beats Episode 11

This… is a pretty stupid story idea. Also, why is Tenshi so dumb. Actually. Why are all the characters so dumb.

This series goes like 3 episode of awesomeness, and 1 episode of epic fail. It’s better than Mayoi Neko I guess, which is like 2 awesome, 1 fail.

Mayoi Neko Overrun Episode 09

Aaand this is an example of a fail episode.

Ichiban Ushiro no Daimaou Episode 10

Awesome anime!

Epic post title and above all. EPIC. CLIMAX.

ef -a tale of melodies- Episode 06

This is an anime about art and music. Naturally, the art of this anime is very modernist and unique. However, it gets in the way sometimes… actually, quite often. This episode’s overdrawn description of Yuuko’s story was annoying. Also, the plot requires a large measure of WSoD. As well as deep thinking to figure out the complex relationships and random timeskips, and especially (and most enjoyably) figuring out the artful metaphors and themes. The music is also horrible. This is an anime about music. I can’t believe the music isn’t mind-blowingly brilliant.

However… I believe I may have fallen in love with one of the main characters, Mizuki. Also, the story may not be that brilliant, but the themes it explores are so deeply entwined to familiar issues that I myself have. I suppose this may be the main reason I enjoy this anime. So, a poetic imperfect masterpiece-could-have-been. If I were to rate it right now, I’d say… AA.

One big thing is that this anime has failed to make me cry. Before I can let out any shred of compassion for the characters, some annoyingly “artful” piece of scriptwriting pisses me off.

ef -a tale of melodies- Episode 11

The music got a bit better, but the main violin piece that Kuze plays isn’t all that amazing or anything. I like how everything is against the norm in this anime. Also, the story ended up pretty good. Still didn’t make me cry. Yet. One ep left. Current rating is probably like an AAA+.

Wow, nevermind. Kuze’ song sung by Mizuki is pretty awesome.

The single most annoying thing about this anime is Yuuko’s hat. I HATE THAT HAT.

3 months of random anime comments

June 11th, 2010

This is… really old… yea, so this is like 3 months of random anime comments. In fact… I guess I’ll title it that.

Mayoi Neko Overrun Episode 05

Chise is so lonely and pitiful. But obviously she’s such a brat. AWESOME! Last episode’s character becomes a main character! =D Chikumaen is an interesting last name, now that I think of it.

Too much crying… sniff sniff. The conclusion was slightly… too fake. And I don’t like how Kaho was the “badguy”. But all in all, a nice episode.

Tears to Tiara Episode 25

'kay.

Finally got to finishing this. That albino guy uses the Force… no wait, he’s secretly Accelerator in disguise! The albino-ness even matches up! I do like how the anime turns black-and-white as the world is about to end and Heaven is about to be joined with Earth. WTF Taliesin is alive? I really thought he died. Which means… yay for pairing.

Tears to Tiara Episode 26 FINAL

Arawn has his Kamina moment. BELIEVE IN ME WHO BELIEVES IN YOU! YOUR DRILL IS THE ONE THAT WILL PIERCE THE HEAVENS! He even says some of the exact same things Kamina says. “WHO THE HELL DO YOU THINK I AM!?!?!?”

This boss battle reminds me of Mabi. The whole Celtic mythology thing, plus that huge thing reminds me of Glas. Oh yeah, and everyone, pressure Riannon. Yeah, that’s going to help.

And the Riannon starts pwning anything with that Huge Beam of Light. ROW! ROW! FIGHT THE POWAH!

Then the Pendragon thing, Arthur is made king (omg who would have guessed. =_=). And… nothing really is told of the epilogue. We do have a final Taliesin squishy moment though. Anyways.

What I thought about this anime as a whole? I liked the plot, it was meaningful, especially compared to most anime nowadays. The humor, when it appeared, was average, but it was present when it was needed. One major thing about the high rating I am going to give Tears+Tiara is that there wasn’t a single character I disliked. Yes. This is amazing, but I liked every single character in this anime… including all the villains, and all the minor characters. As expected from a game-adapted anime, I suppose, where the main focus is almost entirely on characters. The character development of everybody but Arthur was highly neglected, I believe, but then again, I’m not really that interested. Also, if you’ve read something like Mists of Avalon and/or know some things about Celtic mythology, you’d know that 90% of the historical information cited in this anime is completely made-up. Yet compare this with Mists — which would you rather read?

Character: S+ / Plot+Setting: AAA+ / Music: A / Art: AA

Overall: (notice I curve this down considerably XD) AA+ [7.5/10]

The lame ending slightly lowered my rating. How does… Riannon suddenly remember some poem… and pwn everything with two sentences of Latin verse (or whatever language that is)? No sense is made. And then… it just ends. o_O

Hanamaru Kindergarten Episode 05

Yes I realize I’m about a season late. Awesome Evangelion references. Better confess, otherwise tomorrow Yuu-chan may move away… or he might be abducted by aliens tomorrow… or the Second Impact could happen tomorrow!

Hanamaru Kindergarten Episode 06

TSUCCHI’S IMOUTO IS AWESOME!!! Satsuki is now the best character in the series.

And, who would’ve guessed, she has a onii-chan complex. Wahaha.

Nagasarete Airantou Episode 15

From last episode… Mei Mei === Nodoka (wow it took me 20 seconds to recall her name) from Negima~~ I love how the introduction of new characters is well-paced. There isn’t anything I don’t like about this anime except the weird glasses-lady. Seriously, Mei Mei looks EXACTLY like Nodoka (facial expressions & reactions and all), except for recolored hair, a pair of braided bangs, and Chinese buns (what are those called), and the China dress (what are those called >> qipao?).

Oh, something interesting about the series (probably on purpose) — doesn’t “Airantou” sound like “Island” pronounced in Japanese? XD

Kaichou wa Maid-sama Episode 06

This episode is getting worse every episode. All the puns and jokes they’re using have already been done. There are NO new characters at all. The romansu SUCKS. Usui is too straightforward. Misaki’s plight is unrealistic, nothing really makes sense, and it’s not… interesting. Anymore. The first episode was funny, but… no. Not anymore.

Dance in the Vampire Bund Episode 11

Ugh, this SUCKS so bad! And it was so hyped too! The art is HORRIBLE! They keep trying to do the Ueki thing (or the Index thing or whatever other anime you want to ref) with “lone weak man VS impossible odds”… in fact, even Airantou involves these… “zettai muri” odds. Unfortunately, Bund sucks so I can’t be bothered to appreciate the effort they pretended they put into making the anime. This situation and the plotline must have been pretty good in the manga though, maybe I’ll check that out sometime.

Dance in the Vampire Bund Episode 12 FINAL

This anime. Sucked. It was off the charts.

Character: D- / Plot+Setting: D- / Art: F / Music: C

Overall: D [3/10]

Fairy Tail Episode 32

Ending to Loke arc. Nothing unexpected happened. This arc was lame.

Fairy Tail Episode 33

You can just feel the epicness of what’s about to happen in this arc flow up your veins.

Durarara! Episode 20+21

If nothing else, I love the narration of this anime.

Angel Beats Episode 09

It’s the last day of school today. And I’m pissed at life. So what do I do. I watch a good anime.

Initial comment: Wow, great quality animation. I seem to remember sucky animation at the beginning of the series; huh. Wait, there was an epic train incident and there’s no huge crowd of emergency personnel? Nobody knows that an epic train accident just happened? They’re not using their futuristic lasers to melt open the ground and save everybody with their mechas and island-sized submarine-airships? Is this really Japan? ><

Wow, Otonashi’s past…

Death is always such a good theme to explore in literature and art.

Angel Beats Episode 10

Why. Is this anime. So. Awesome. Nooo Yui! Don’t get rid of her ;_;

Oh. my. That ending was so beautiful.

Mahou Sensei Negima! Mou Hitotsu no Sekai OVA 03

I can’t believe how much the quality of this sucks. Since they’re making OVAs instead of a new anime, you’d think the quality would be drastically higher.

However. I DESPERATELYwant to see the EPIC Rakan VS Negi battle animated. Rewatching OVA 02 (fine… “OAD 02” if you want to call it that… I don’t even know what it stands for o_O), the short Negi and Kotarou fight was pretty well-done. I won’t say it was really good animation, because it wasn’t. The animation in this OVA was also not awesome enough to match the epicness of Negima. I hope they ban Negima! and Negima!? and remake the OVAs into a 100-episode anime. Then I can die happy.

Shii.

May 5th, 2010

I’m not reviewing every episode I watch anymore. I’m just going to randomly write about episodes if I feel like it.

Highlight of this post: ANGEL BEATS 02-05. EPIC WIN.

Durarara!! Episode 14

I like the new OP. I love Anri’s voice, but her art/character design SUCKS~ Shinra is so secretly evil ><; did Anri just die?

Tears to Tiara Episode 03

Arawn’s Wife Count: 2.

Epic arrows, cutting through solid iron armor. I love how Riannon was like “^____^” before killing that soldier. So cute ><

Isn’t fighting on a boat… kind of… dangerous? :D

Tears to Tiara Episode 05

So, what’s the first thing once you finally sneak into the enemy country’s capital city? SIGHTSEEING!!

Fairy Tail Episode 26

Hmm. Not awesome enough =D needs moar awesome!

Mayoi Neko Overrun Episode 03

I want Takumi’s harem :<

Angel Beats Episode 02&03

It got better and better. The first episode sucked.

Angel Beats Episode 04

This episode was AWESOME! If this becomes the standard for this anime, Angel Beats will meet or surpass the likes of Kanon and CLANNAD! I’m even willing to ignore the Yurippe-Haruhi issue.

But yeah, Angel Beats really has that awesome Key anime feel, with the unique style of humor, uniquely uncreative character stereotypes (it’s… unique… in how much Key reuses the same character personalities). That was a back-handed compliment, I swear.

Mayoi Neko Overrun! Episode 04

Wow, this episode is so the replacement for Sora no Otoshimono. The assortment of rich ladies also resembles Hayate no Gotoku. But still… that must have been five or ten straight minutes, that ping-pong scene. And the… um… scene… where……

Angel Beats Episode 05

That episode was as awesome, or awesomer than episode 04. It has the perfect combination of awesome music, hilarious humor, and sad, contemplative storyline and character depth. This here is a true Key masterpiece, assuming they don’t end this lamely. I seriously can’t wait for the next episode, and I haven’t felt like that for an anime in a long time…

Fairy Tail Episode 28

That was a satisfying arc conclusion.

Durarara!! Episode 16

Epic unexpected turn of events! Why are Japanese light novels always so awesome?

Shin Koihime Musou Episode 12 FINAL

SO LAME! MY EYES BLEED!!

Ryuubi suddenly bursting into song was so totally predictable. The whole thing is totally lame, but oh well, it’s typical from this anime.

Lol at the Higurashi I’m-about-to-murder-you-epicly face that whatshername makes. I also love how they pretend they’re following Chinese history. Wahaha~ that’s the best part of that anime.

Hey, it’s Bachou-imouto. She should be a major character. LOOL. Epic epilogue. Wonder if I should start the 3rd season yet.

Wow, this is getting long, I’d better click the post button. *makes up random post title*

A day of OCD

May 1st, 2010

I’ve spent the entire day today obsessive-complusively obsessing-compulsing over anime. One thing that astounds me — the only things better than the art of Japanese anime and manga are the numerous communities, blogs, and people who enjoy, commentate, review, draw fan art of, arrange the music of, and simply love anime. It’s quite deep, unexpectedly, especially when compared to American television, which probably has a larger audience, but lacks this essential aspect.

Current Music: 太陽が似合うよ / Taiyou ga Niau yo水樹奈々 / Nana Mizuki

The song’s been on repeat since last night. I’d really like to listen to the Angel Beats! intro song, especially Yui’s version featured in episode 04, but that doesn’t seem to have come out yet. Quite evidently, I have spent the last few days (ever since watching episodes 02 to 05 of Angel Beats!) being obsessed with Angel Beats!. Seriously, I have not seen an anime as good as this in a long time (mostly because I’ve been watching crappy animes lately). After finishing episode 05, I really can’t wait until the next episode. Like, really. I’d pay to watch episode 06 right now.

Rosario+Vampire

April 18th, 2010

Episode 01 — There’s no OP song! NOO! I watched this anime almost purely for the Nana Mizuki songs!

Anyways, the situation and set-up is pretty comedic, I can’t say I dislike any of it. However, I protest against instantly throwing our protagonist into love-polygon-world. Well, happens all the time in Japanese anime, but still.

Our female protagonist, Moka, 1000% channels Lala (ToLOVE-ru). Right down to the pink hair. Well, actually, I think Rosario came before TLR.

Wow, so many things happened in just one episode! Things are runnin’ fast in this anime! I like it!

First meeting? Check. School life together? Check, one day. Love confession, check.

And then throw in mahou-shoujo transformation scene and vampire beating up mean ugly ogre. And tie it up with a pleasant outro song. Not bad.

Episode 02 — EPIC NANA MIZUKI SONG

Episode 03 — Lol last episode the epic Nana Mizuki song caused me to forget everything I was going to write in my summary/review.

EH did I see GONZO somewhere in the opening credits? :OOO;;;

Her voice is cute, sounds like a mouse. Sendou Yukari. Where have I heard this :3

Our lead male protagonist gives out an extremely Tomoki (Sora no Otoshimono) vibe, minus Tomoki’s perverted tendencies. Well, he doesn’t give out a Tomoki vibe. He just…. actually he just looks like Tomoki and has some of the same facial expressions. Haha.

Wow, she’s a real mahou shoujo. .———–.

She just broke the fourth wall ~△~

If you’ve noticed, all the major characters introduced so far have the trait of being really lonely.

Oh, and I think I like evil!Moka better than normal!Moka. Oh, and Moka -> Mocha…

The narrator needs to shut up.

Tsukune’s Harem: +1.

I can’t wait until the character-introducing is over and we get into some of the conflict and ACTION!

Episode 04 — He needs some character development. As a human, he’s way too weak.

It’s probably going to turn out something like with Rito, just used as a gag plot and recurring joke.

“I will, one day, become strong enough to protect anyone.”

Yup, not gonna happen. Anyways… THE BUS DRIVER IS THE BEST CHARACTER IN THE SERIES SO FAR!! =D

that was semi-serious.

Episode 05 — Lol, you expect the bus driver to pull an “I AM YOUR FATHER!” or something out of thin air or something soon. ;D

Great insert song. Eh, the chibi’s wasn’t that nice.

Moka should do what that-vampire-queen-from-Dance-in-the-Vampire-Bund does and use water-resistant lotion/sunscreen.

Episode 06 — New character, Gin-senpai. He’s like Iago… epic framing and manipulation. And, on top of all that… he has an Osaka accent! =D

So evil though. Wahaha. And Tsukune.. he really IS Tomoki, to a T. And can’t the narrator shut up during the transformation scene yet?

Episode 07 — Kurumu is kawaii x3

The loli witch kind of pisses me off. She’s not that cute, and her voice is annoying.

This is interesting. She’s not in love with Tsukune-kun… she’s in love with the newspaper articles he writes XD

Hm, interestingly there’s only really one (well two if you count vampire!Moka) character out of Tsukune’s harem of (so far) 4 that I like. Tehe.

Episode 08 — Erm… whaaa… o———–O

“Yeah, come to my room tonight. I’ll teach you lots of things.” <— yeah great way to invite a guy to a study session.

Was this episode supposed to encourage teens to study and love mathematics? If I saw this and was bad at math, I would be permanently scarred.

They don’t have photocopy machines in this school? And… wow… the math teacher… … … yes, I think I’m permanently scarred.

Yeah, mind-control innocent students and force them to memorize math formulas. That’s so totally evil. XD

Episode 09 – end

The witch/Ruby arc really sucked. I can’t believe Moka is actually that weak… she has no special attacks or anything? All she can do is kick people really hard? Wow…

Suddenly this anime isn’t so appealing anymore. They could have done so much more with the premise…

The final arc, with Newspaper Club vs Heianbu, had a really heart-rending set-up. The way they treated our poor main characters was really well-done. It didn’t make me cry, but then again, the only anime that made me cry was CLANNAD, as far as I can remember. I don’t think I cried for Kanon.

But yeah, the set-up for the climax was great… but the climax. SUCKED. What the heck with Moka being so weak? And everyone getting beat up? And the conclusion… what? o_O

I’d give this anime a good rating for the Nana Mizuki song, but it wasn’t really that great. I liked much less than half of the characters introduced. (Compare to, say, ToLOVE-ru, whose characters I almost all liked.) Even ignoring the characters, the plot was not worth watching. Maybe I’ll give it an A+ or so, simply because of Dance in the Velvet Moon. [6.5/10]
