aaahh~~nn.

November 30th, 2009

Let’s lengthen my “one-word reviews” to “one-paragraph”. One word is still too little.

And yes, lol, it looks like I have quickly given up on systematic ratings. Heh.

Kampfer Episode 09

… umm.

I can’t understand the thought process that goes on in the minds of the producers who came up with this anime. It’s even harder for me to understand the minds of the people who can actually enjoy watching this without breaking their desks (from all the headdesk-ing).

Right, random screenshot.

C+. [4.5/10]

Seiken no Blacksmith Episode 09

It turns out Luke had a childhood friend who was identical to Cecily, and something tragic happened to her. That explains his coldness, but it doesn’t make this any less lame. It’s still sweet, though. I guess I’m a sucker for the “childhood friend” character.

So, like… Cecily and Luke go out on a date. Cecily is finally wearing something that doesn’t emphasize her bust (e.g. normal girl clothing). Tsundere+tsundere makes for a rather entertaining combination.

Well, it didn’t suck that bad. A. [6/10]

Another reason I dislike this anime is because it goes against some of my principles. Cecily “tries so hard”, yet she still sucks so bad, it’s almost funny.

Fairy Tail Episode 08

Loved it. Climax of this arc, and beautifully done. SS. [10/10]

Kobato Episode 07 –e

Kobato’s character is cliche and lame, but sure. Whatever. Fujimoto-san is totally a relate-able character, though.

“Chiho” and “Chise”? Great, more CLAMP crossovering >< Anyways, yay for Chitose showing up. I don’t even remember her at all from Chobits of any of her incarnations in Tsubasa.

Oh, and how come it -just happens- that every person Kobato meets is “troubled”? I like the inner themes of “kindness”; personalities, problems, the meaning of strength — true strength. It’s a CLAMP thing… but the characters of Kobato aren’t likable enough.

However, I still feel CLAMP could have done this even better. It was touching, yes, but… you could tell it was intentionally meant to be touching, and I just don’t like that feeling. A. [6/10]

They’re getting shorter and shorter…

November 28th, 2009

Category-by-category ratings are too tiring. In fact, typing more than two words per episode is too tiring in the first place. One-word reviews ftw.

生徒会の一存 / Seitokai no Ichizon Episode 08

"Lolicon."

"Lolicon."

(An episode of Seitokai where I actually almost felt sorry for Sugisaki-kun… hell must have frozen over.)

AAA+. [8.5/10]

うみねこのく頃に / Umineko no Naku Koro ni Episode 22

Huh.

B. [5/10]

真・恋姫無双 / Shin Koihime Musou Episode 08

Lol. (Random screenshot.)

AA. [7/10]

とある科学の超電磁砲 / To Aru Kagaku no Railgun Episode 09

My internet broke down in the middle of obtaining this episode… so that’s why the entire post was delayed.

“Today’s Kuroko is dangerous.” It’s rather like a weather forecast.

Saten turns to the dark side, and Touma doesn’t show up. :(

What-I’m-Doing-Right-Now Post

November 28th, 2009

I’m semi-bored even though I have a truckload of homework to do over Thanksgiving break. My stores of willpower have been thoroughly depleted by now, however. (By the way, if you haven’t heard this line from me yet: “You can accomplish ANYTHING with sheer willpower.” Recently I revised this to “sheer willpower and enough time”.)

The problem with humans in general: “willpower” is exactly what we lack. Figures.

So like, here’s how my Thanksgiving went in one sentence: Guests came over, turkey was horrible, I would rather have had a Cup Noodle. Actually that was a run-on; sorry.

On Black Friday my mom and dad made $125, interestingly. My mom went at 4:00am to shop for deals and spent like $100. When she came home, my dad told her to return everything she bought because it was worthless junk that we already had too much of anyways. It just so happens that the store’s sale ended at 1pm… and when we returned it, they refunded us at the non-sale price (about $200). So we made $100 there. Also, they gave us a free $25 gift card that they didn’t bother taking back. Modern retailing is interesting, but they made so much net profit from Black Friday, I doubt they really care.

My dad’s “excuse” for the money we walked off with was especially interesting: “We can’t tell them that we walked off with $125 from them! If we told the sales associate, she would surely have been fired! We’re not telling them about the money because we care about the sales associate’s welfare!”

Fast forward to Saturday: my family went with some Asian family friends to Newport Beach. The problem was, there were 6 “children under five” and only one “teenager” (along with everybody’s parents). I’m sure my dear little siblings fully enjoyed the trip — we rented a 14-person boat and drove around the harbor, and we even let each of the little children take a turn at “driving” the 5mph hunk of a boat. I, however, didn’t get much done, so I consider it a waste of a day.

Here I am, day 3/5. Mists essay: 0%. Oh, I forgot to talk about something.

I’ve ranted about AT&T before, right? Well, our 2wire modem (2701-B or whatnot) must be AT&T’s secret plan to sabotage our home networks or something. Seriously, nothing works. That damn innocent-looking white box’s “firewall” is truly a menace. It doesn’t let any of my legitimate traffic through, yet it gives AT&T and 2wire full remote control access to it. They don’t let me, the OWNER of the router/modem… more like brick… set the settings on the router… what a user-friendly design. Anyways, I spent all of Friday night messing with it because I was only getting 30kbps download on my anime, and one small attempt to fix it resulted in my whole network borking out… leading me to stay up until 3am messing with this conglomeration of bricks and wires.

Luckily my dad randomly bought a new router online on Thursday, so I’ll just set the 2wire to bridge mode and use my Linksys as our gateway — and actually have control over my home network. Sigh.

Anyways, now here I am. Reading Seitokai no Ichizon manga and pretending I know Japanese because I can read the furigana; waiting for my Railgun to finish transferring at snail-pace; and finally… blogging in place of the essay I should be writing at the moment.

600 word post. These 600 words would probably be better spent on Mists of Avalon, but when I rule the world I will ban that book from the face of the Earth. All copies shall be burnt, and anybody found in possession of it will be tortured, then killed, then tortured some more.

November 27th, 2009

This will be a post of random things.

***

I was browsing through this online Japanese bookstore when I came upon an interesting picture book for sale:

Breasts (Children’s Picture Book) By Genichiro Yagyu

The cover makes it even more “dot dot dot”… and yes, it’s a children’s picture book…

***

A cut here for no reason. And lol, I never bothered changing the title.

[そらのおとしみの] Sora no Otoshimono -08-

November 24th, 2009

そらのおとしみの / Sora no Otoshimono Episode 08

THIS IS WAR!!

Right, so this round of Sora no Otoshimono is a Battle Royale-style cork gun shootout.

“The Satsukitane family has organized a all-ages family fun event in order to promote the unity of our delightful town. All participants from young to old will be provided with non-lethal arms and munitions, and everybody is to mow each other down cheerfully, with these guns that just happen to look like AK-47 assault rifles. Everybody please come participate in this fun, safe community activity!”

Armed with his M16, Eishirou-kun helps snipe down the mob of vegetable ladies, fishmongers, and female classmates after Sakurai-kun, our popular protagonist. Don’t worry — “You’re loved, Sakurai-kun.”

Meanwhile, the Apocalypse arrives. Luckily for the world, Sakurai-kun tells her to go away.

Meanwhile meanwhile, Nymph is out and about being secretly evil again.

Wow, this is cool. So are they saying, like, Ikaros caused the downfall of the Roman Empire thousands of years ago or something?

And then she just starts crying. Nymph is so evil, she ends up being stupid. “I’ve got mud on my face! EWW! EWW! It’s so dirty!”

Wow, Ikaros is suddenly not an angelpet anymore. And Nymph leaves. Aww.

Meanwhile. Ahem.

“Oh, sorry, I had a real gun mixed in.”

Ending credits. Creative as usual. I don’t know why I took three shots of it.

And, as we conclude: Ikaros shows off her newfound ability to cry. Surprisingly sweet for a show as lacking in sanity as Sora no Otoshimono.

Systematic Rating

Music <1/2> | Mood+Tone <2/2> | Dialogue <2/2> = Total: «19/20»

Normal Rating: S+ [9.5/10]

why am I watching anime

November 23rd, 2009

Kampfer Episode 08

… no. C. [4/10]

Fairy Tail Episode 07 — woah, this anime just keeps getting better.

S+. [9.5/10]

*************

Standardized score calculation: focus of anime is [humor], [plot]; categories will be weighted heavier.

Humor <4/5> Plot <4/5> Characters <2/2> Art <2/2> Music <1/2> Mood/Tone <1/2> Dialogue <1/2> = Total «15/20»

This heuristic approach to scoring brings my scores way down, I find, so I’ll give both from now on (when I have the time).

Actually, this might be better:

Humor <x/5> Plot <x/5> Characters+Art+Music <x/5> Mood+Tone+Dialogue <x/5> = Total «x/20»

Hum.

**************

Nyan Koi! Episode 08

Why are gg’s subs showing up messed up in MPC? I don’t mind VLC, but still.

Hilarity as we have come to expect from Nyan Koi!.

AWESOME! Nagi randomly shows up, as usual.

Mailwoman too >.<

This season had a lot of animes that started out great, but the pool has thinned out. This is one of the animes that is still awesome. (And I didn’t like it that well at the start of the season, right?)

“Why did you steal Mizuno’s bra!?!? But more importantly, WHY DIDN’T YOU STEAL MINE??”

Humor <5/5> | Plot <4/5>

Characters <2/2> | Art <2/2>

Music <1.5/2> | Mood/Tone <1.5/2>

Dialogue <2/2> == Total «18/20»

Damn, that’s a high heuristic score.

Next week: our pool/beach episode! Oh, and normal score is S. Yes, score is lower than this week’s Fairy Tail even though the systematic score is higher by three points. [9/10]

11eyes Episode 07

I’m not really even expecting anything from this anime anymore.

The song lyrics are deep, and the anime dialogue tries to be just as deep (and fails). If only the anime was as good as the opening song, haha.

… Yuka is so lame, it’s almost funny. “Oh my god, Kakeru now knows there are other pretty girls in the world! I’m now going to go suicide myself or something.”

The girl in the crystal is cute, it just happens that she never does anything except… um… open her eyes… and then… close them…

Kakeru is so stupid; even stupider than Cecily (Blacksmith).

Yuka randomly asked like “OMG Kakeru-kun KISS ME!”… and when Kakeru-kun goes “HELL NO” she cries, runs away, and hopefully died.

… and have I mentioned how overpowered Takehisa is? o-o

Hurry up and kill Yuka off already. She’s pissing me off so much.

… too much crying in this episode for no reason. Usually you don’t have your characters cry until like the climax, when something really epic happens..

On second thought, green-haired girl (forgot her name already…) is more overpowered than Takehisa-senpai. Right, Kukuri-san. Somehow, I find her muteness sexy.

What the heck just happened there. That didn’t make any goddamn sense.

… is this a random flashback? Great, just what we needed. =_=

Either way, epic music. Epic animation. Unparalleled CG quality and blah blah blah, but the anime sucks, and that’s the bottom line. D. [3/10]

Humor <0/5> | Plot <1/5>

Characters <1/2> | Art <2.5/2>

Music <2/2> | Mood/Tone <1/2>

Dialogue <0.5/2> == Total «8/20»

Wow.

yes, wow.

Seiken no Blacksmith -08-

November 22nd, 2009

finally decided to watch something after a day of mathing. why, oh why did I choose to watch this

Seiken no Blacksmith “The Sacred BlacksmithEpisode 08 — this is stupid… um… erm…

And the character designs of the fake-princess and her bodyguards were so goood too… and Cecily is just… stupid.

Great animations and character designs but really sucky lines, really sucky dialogue, what the hell is up with the plot…

The only cool person here is Luke. Huh.

The stupidness is only multiplying.

.............................

.............................

yes… that was an actual line from the dialogue…

…. this whole anime is f***ing stupid.

I’m sorry. It’s the truth. Every goddamn character is so GODDAMN F***ING STUPID.
