3 months of random anime comments

June 11th, 2010

This is… really old… yea, so this is like 3 months of random anime comments. In fact… I guess I’ll title it that.

Mayoi Neko Overrun Episode 05

Chise is so lonely and pitiful. But obviously she’s such a brat. AWESOME! Last episode’s character becomes a main character! =D Chikumaen is an interesting last name, now that I think of it.

Too much crying… sniff sniff. The conclusion was slightly… too fake. And I don’t like how Kaho was the “badguy”. But all in all, a nice episode.

Tears to Tiara Episode 25

'kay.

Finally got to finishing this. That albino guy uses the Force… no wait, he’s secretly Accelerator in disguise! The albino-ness even matches up! I do like how the anime turns black-and-white as the world is about to end and Heaven is about to be joined with Earth. WTF Taliesin is alive? I really thought he died. Which means… yay for pairing.

Tears to Tiara Episode 26 FINAL

Arawn has his Kamina moment. BELIEVE IN ME WHO BELIEVES IN YOU! YOUR DRILL IS THE ONE THAT WILL PIERCE THE HEAVENS! He even says some of the exact same things Kamina says. “WHO THE HELL DO YOU THINK I AM!?!?!?”

This boss battle reminds me of Mabi. The whole Celtic mythology thing, plus that huge thing reminds me of Glas. Oh yeah, and everyone, pressure Riannon. Yeah, that’s going to help.

And the Riannon starts pwning anything with that Huge Beam of Light. ROW! ROW! FIGHT THE POWAH!

Then the Pendragon thing, Arthur is made king (omg who would have guessed. =_=). And… nothing really is told of the epilogue. We do have a final Taliesin squishy moment though. Anyways.

What I thought about this anime as a whole? I liked the plot, it was meaningful, especially compared to most anime nowadays. The humor, when it appeared, was average, but it was present when it was needed. One major thing about the high rating I am going to give Tears+Tiara is that there wasn’t a single character I disliked. Yes. This is amazing, but I liked every single character in this anime… including all the villains, and all the minor characters. As expected from a game-adapted anime, I suppose, where the main focus is almost entirely on characters. The character development of everybody but Arthur was highly neglected, I believe, but then again, I’m not really that interested. Also, if you’ve read something like Mists of Avalon and/or know some things about Celtic mythology, you’d know that 90% of the historical information cited in this anime is completely made-up. Yet compare this with Mists — which would you rather read?

Character: S+ / Plot+Setting: AAA+ / Music: A / Art: AA

Overall: (notice I curve this down considerably XD) AA+ [7.5/10]

The lame ending slightly lowered my rating. How does… Riannon suddenly remember some poem… and pwn everything with two sentences of Latin verse (or whatever language that is)? No sense is made. And then… it just ends. o_O

Hanamaru Kindergarten Episode 05

Yes I realize I’m about a season late. Awesome Evangelion references. Better confess, otherwise tomorrow Yuu-chan may move away… or he might be abducted by aliens tomorrow… or the Second Impact could happen tomorrow!

Hanamaru Kindergarten Episode 06

TSUCCHI’S IMOUTO IS AWESOME!!! Satsuki is now the best character in the series.

And, who would’ve guessed, she has a onii-chan complex. Wahaha.

Nagasarete Airantou Episode 15

From last episode… Mei Mei === Nodoka (wow it took me 20 seconds to recall her name) from Negima~~ I love how the introduction of new characters is well-paced. There isn’t anything I don’t like about this anime except the weird glasses-lady. Seriously, Mei Mei looks EXACTLY like Nodoka (facial expressions & reactions and all), except for recolored hair, a pair of braided bangs, and Chinese buns (what are those called), and the China dress (what are those called >> qipao?).

Oh, something interesting about the series (probably on purpose) — doesn’t “Airantou” sound like “Island” pronounced in Japanese? XD

Kaichou wa Maid-sama Episode 06

This episode is getting worse every episode. All the puns and jokes they’re using have already been done. There are NO new characters at all. The romansu SUCKS. Usui is too straightforward. Misaki’s plight is unrealistic, nothing really makes sense, and it’s not… interesting. Anymore. The first episode was funny, but… no. Not anymore.

Dance in the Vampire Bund Episode 11

Ugh, this SUCKS so bad! And it was so hyped too! The art is HORRIBLE! They keep trying to do the Ueki thing (or the Index thing or whatever other anime you want to ref) with “lone weak man VS impossible odds”… in fact, even Airantou involves these… “zettai muri” odds. Unfortunately, Bund sucks so I can’t be bothered to appreciate the effort they pretended they put into making the anime. This situation and the plotline must have been pretty good in the manga though, maybe I’ll check that out sometime.

Dance in the Vampire Bund Episode 12 FINAL

This anime. Sucked. It was off the charts.

Character: D- / Plot+Setting: D- / Art: F / Music: C

Overall: D [3/10]

Fairy Tail Episode 32

Ending to Loke arc. Nothing unexpected happened. This arc was lame.

Fairy Tail Episode 33

You can just feel the epicness of what’s about to happen in this arc flow up your veins.

Durarara! Episode 20+21

If nothing else, I love the narration of this anime.

Angel Beats Episode 09

It’s the last day of school today. And I’m pissed at life. So what do I do. I watch a good anime.

Initial comment: Wow, great quality animation. I seem to remember sucky animation at the beginning of the series; huh. Wait, there was an epic train incident and there’s no huge crowd of emergency personnel? Nobody knows that an epic train accident just happened? They’re not using their futuristic lasers to melt open the ground and save everybody with their mechas and island-sized submarine-airships? Is this really Japan? ><

Wow, Otonashi’s past…

Death is always such a good theme to explore in literature and art.

Angel Beats Episode 10

Why. Is this anime. So. Awesome. Nooo Yui! Don’t get rid of her ;_;

Oh. my. That ending was so beautiful.

Mahou Sensei Negima! Mou Hitotsu no Sekai OVA 03

I can’t believe how much the quality of this sucks. Since they’re making OVAs instead of a new anime, you’d think the quality would be drastically higher.

However. I DESPERATELYwant to see the EPIC Rakan VS Negi battle animated. Rewatching OVA 02 (fine… “OAD 02” if you want to call it that… I don’t even know what it stands for o_O), the short Negi and Kotarou fight was pretty well-done. I won’t say it was really good animation, because it wasn’t. The animation in this OVA was also not awesome enough to match the epicness of Negima. I hope they ban Negima! and Negima!? and remake the OVAs into a 100-episode anime. Then I can die happy.

Winter 2010, insert-something-that-rhymes-here

March 20th, 2010

I’ve only just realized it, but Omamori Himari is just like Tayutama, down to the weird spirit thing; Himari simply calls them “Ayakashi” instead of “Tayutai”.

Fairy Tail Episode 20 — How come childhood-friends-who-end-up-dying are always named Lisa? Also, the set of facial expressions that characters show are getting very old, along with the camera angles and tsukkomi moments. Everything is already “been done, seen that” in this anime now.

Durarara!! Episode 08 — I’ll summarize this with the title of this episode. Life is Transient.

To Aru Kagaku no Railgun Episode 22 — Kiyama Harumi is back! And Gekota-sensei. And we’re getting back into the To Aru groove. The stupid “school life” thing that’s been going on with Railgun sucked so bad… but the new arc is YEAHH!

Baka to Test to Shokanjuu Episode 08 — I (still) worship this anime.

Omamori Himari Episode 09 — hmm… basically, if you remove 20% of this anime, it becomes 100% nude people and girls stripping.

~ Nano.

Public Safety Division 4. I like that name.

Durarara!! Episode 09 — The backstory of the Yagiri siblings, and everything about Yagiri Pharmacy is revealed. This ep has brought Durarara!! back  into my good graces.

“Oh noes! My head is running away from me!!” <– seriously this is what is happening in this episode

Orihaya Izaya: “I love humans! I just love them! I’m in love with them!”

Durarara!! Episode 10 — “The fact that you had to explain the joke just shows how lame it was.”

Our introverted protagonist, at the end of this episode, suddenly pulls a Lelouch on us. I wonder what he has planned!

Fairy Tail Episode 21 — I’m not quite sure what to say about this sudden turn of events.

Actually, after finishing it, I can say for sure. AWESOME.

Baka to Test to Shokanjuu Episode 09 — Yoshii-kun’s nee-san returns! (My first reaction was: “hmm… hairstyle… speaking pace… huge chest… IKAROS!”) And then, if you look at her based purely on her hairstyle and hair color, she also looks a lot like Saki from -Saki-.

This is so hilarious.

BakaTest Episode 10 — Eh, this one wasn’t as awesome.

Railgun Episode 23 — You can just tell from that crooked smile on her face: “Look everybody, I’m going to do something bad later on in this episode!”

That face totally looked like Uiharu was going to say “Kiyama-sense! GROUP HUG!!”

Cliffhanger :p

Omamori Himari Episode 10 — Soooo serious. (That soooo wasn’t sarcastic.)

I’m cold. It’s 8 in the morning~ yaawn~. (see how interesting this anime is?)

Himari’s maid… or whatever she is, and whatever her name is, is cute. Hey, isn’t this insert song the, um, B-side to the OP?

Hidamari Sketch Episode 01 — It’s funny; I accidentally downloaded Russian subs.

I still enjoyed this episode, even though I had to watch it raw. I love the low-quality animation. Seriously. Hidamari Sketch makes low-budget cheap animation look good.

Magical Pokan Episode 01 — Yeah, I felt like starting some good new old animes. Erm… good ol’ old animes.

This one is more of the pantyflashing sort. However, this is another example of great low-budget cheapo animation. I love how serious the intro sequence is, and the humor is well-done for the most part. It’s not anything approaching Hayate or anything, but it’s pretty great.

Railgun Episode 24 FINAL — where’s mah touma (final episode… we get to see him for like 2secs)…

All-in-all, this anime was not all that satisfying. The characters are great, but the plot isn’t epic enough… and the fillers were quite painful. We needed more Touma. And more Index.

Omamori Himari Episode 11 — I love how huge the character count has become at this point. This anime is good for laughing at how stupid anime in general is. Except this is a bad representation of the Japanese art of animation.

The battle is so… lame… stupid… completely idiotic. Yuuto needs to do things… THE NANOHA WAY. Making friends… one Starlight Breaker at a time. =D

This is so completely, utterly stupid. Somebody shoot me.

Durarara!! Episode 11 — The climax of Duarara!! is beyond epic. The suspense is amazing (I hate where they ended this episode… mega cliffhanger), and the entire backstory is so clever and beyond expectations.

taking the limit of (anime) as (stupidity) approaches infinity

February 28th, 2010

back to one-word summaries for today.

or so I tried.

(sry about the really stupid title.)

Polyphonica Episode 11-12 — Great.

To be more specific — the ending was not epic in any way, but it gave the series a so-so conclusion without anything big. The plot of this anime never really went anywhere, so I am extremely disappointed in that respect (they could have done so much with the set-up, characters, and unique creative setting!). Also, Coatie is overpowered, but I don’t mind that.

I heard Polyphonica Crimson S was a prequel, but either way, I will be eagerly looking forward to watching the second season. The first season was some of the best character/setting build-up I’ve ever seen… but the build-up went nowhere. Nothing happened, but the animation studio somehow still made the ending somewhat satisfying, so I respect them for that.

BakaTest Episode 05-06 — Interesting.

Pretty funny. Ep 05 was the standard pool episode, funny but nothing really unique. I liked Ep 06: firstly, Yuuji+Shouko is cute. Also, the setting and how the characters were trying not to be recognized was interesting and hilarious. They also managed to make the end of the episode slightly touching, while still maintaining the tone of the series. This is what I call a well-planned, well-executed anime.

Durarara!! Episode 07 — I like how every character’s side story is being explored. Also, this seems to be building up to something epic.

Railgun Episode 20 — RSPK Syndrome.

The To Aru series has some of the best techy-thing names ever… “Imagine Breaker” coming to mind first. This looks like it might become a better arc than Level Upper. More characters = more awesomeness. Where have I heard Haruue-san’s voice before… mmmm…
I looked it up, she’s voiced by Kana Hanazawa, and she voiced Kagome (Asu no Yoichi), Sengoku Nadeko (Bakemonogatari), Anri (Durarara!!), Kobato (Kobato.), and Mikan (ToLOVEる).
Omamori Himari Episode 07 — Child-whatsherface is actually cute.

Yea, this anime isn’t important enough for me to remember the main characters’ names. I watch this because turning off my brain for 30 minutes is relaxing in a way. I hope the brain damage isn’t permanent.

Fairy Tail Episode 19 — This made me laugh more than average. Especially the Erza-Happy switch.

Ookamikakushi Episode 07 — Peach-Pit collaborated on this? Huh, how surprising. You’d think it would be more like Shugo Chara or Rozen Maiden than all Higurashi everybody dying ten times… this isn’t Peach-Pit style at all.

Shugo Chara! Party! Episode 03Shugo Chara sucks really really bad, buuuut… UTAU SHOWS UP IN THIS EP!!! That cancels all else out.

Ikuto’s harem… *sigh*… and I see love blossoming between Hiiragi and our little Easter President. The song wasn’t as great as Meikyuu Butterfly or BLACK DIAMOND. Sigh.

Railgun Episode 21 — Recurring characters for the win.

Omamori Himari Episode 08 — I think I’m getting to hate this anime. Except the catchy OP, I can’t get myself to hate that. How many times have I headdeskked.

Next week: Yuuto’s harem +1?

Zippers add sex appeal?

February 17th, 2010

Truly a magnificent discovery.

Shugo Chara Party / Dokki Doki Episode 02 — Dumbest shit ever.

And to think I liked it so much the first… maybe… 20 or so episodes.

Ookamikakushi Episode 04 — People dying = great. I still dislike the art. The mystery thickens… what is this secret that the entire town seems to be keeping?

Ookamikakushi Episode 05 — Issei is murdered. Joy to the world. I notice Isuzu’s hair looks like a hassaku.

Ookamikakushi Episode 06 — So in the end they’re all selfish bastards? Great, I like that.

Tegami Bachi Episode 04 — Wow, this is good! I’m like 15 episodes behind…

Polyphonica Episode 01 — Decided to watch an old anime. Good music. The plot I can’t say yet, but the setting is interesting. Characters don’t seem too bad.
The lead girl is hot… is this adapted from a dating sim? I kind of get that dating-sim feeling. The lead male is really nice. He’s like… Alto, long hair and all, minus the angst/drama. Oh yeah, the costumes are great too.
Polyphonica Episode 02 — “You can’t hit our clients.” “Everything just sucks.”

Polyphonica Episode 03 –The side characters really feel like Full Metal Panic.

Issho ni Sleeping — I swear… the Japanese are getting more deranged every year. Besides “this is just wrong”, I shall refrain from further comment.

Polyphonica Episode 04 — Some backstory never hurts.

Polyphonica Episode 05 — All the random clients look the same. I really want Coatie to beat them up. (And, doesn’t “Kouti” or something sound much better?) By the way, what happened to that spacey princess way back from Episode 01?

Polyphonica Episode 06 — Hey, the highway signs look like California. Also, that police duo is awesome.

Polyphonica Episode 07-10 — Again, about the zippers…

Dance in the Vampire Bund Episode 05 — It’s naked loli vampire time again. =x=

I fail to see how this is epic. Mina Tepe’s speech mannerisms are extremely annoying. The camera angles and angle changes are just plain annoying too. Maybe they’re trying to be creative (trying to copy GAINAX?), but this just sucks.

Combining bad narration with bad camera angles makes me cringe in pain. I like narration similar to Saten’s narration in To Aru Kagaku no Railgun during the Level Upper story arc… that kind of sad, melancholic, inspirational, mind-opening heartfelt storytelling.

The Student Council is really annoying in this one. I like student councils such as… well, Seitokai no Ichizon is what comes to mind first, but… student councils like SoraKake‘s, or Hayate2‘s (not that… they… ever do anything) or… ugh, what is it that I’m trying to think of? Was it… ToHeart2 or something?

GOD… HORRIBLE ART. That’s it, I fail this anime. F

***

I know I don’t usually write about PVs, but…

Dancing in the velvet moon (live) Nana Mizuki – She, unlike some singers (cough… Aya…), can sing live, but it’s not as awesome as her studio singing. The costume was so-so, staging and stuff is probably typical Japanese concert. The actual song I’ve never heard before; it’s slightly below the typical Nana Mizuki song, but it’s still rather good. Sooo many glow sticks! :o

I’m kind of finding this choreography stupid. Seriously, it’s like… *chest shake*, *butt twitch*… it’s totally ruining my angelic image of Nana Mizuki ><; the other dancers on the stage are extremely annoying to look at. Either way, I didn’t like this video (not that I ever like PVs in general).

there’s a method to the madness. we just haven’t found it yet.

February 15th, 2010

Suddenly, I realize how pointless playing Mabinogi is, and revert to anime. (Don’t tell me anime is just as pointless as MMORPG-ing.)

Omamori Himari Episode 04 — These annoying harems really get on your nerves after a while. The “oh shit my lost childhood memories” line is really lame.

Fairy Tail Episode 16 — They’re trying too hard to be manly.

Durarara!! Episode 05 — Everything connects. It’s just that we don’t know what, when, where, why, or how.

Omamori Himari Episode 05 — It’s so serious, I’ve stopped taking it seriously. No, that was sarcastic.

Basically, the summary of Omamori Himari is… Yuuto falls in love with his pet cat. Awesome synopsis. Next week: the harem count increases to 5!

Railgun Episode 18 — Some comment about how this anime is gay now.

Fairy Tail Episode 17 — Epic story arc climax time!! Or not. Wahaha, good episode, though. Totally funny.

Omamori Himari Episode 06 — Too much fanservice.
The intro song has been stuck in my head for the whole week… and no, I have no idea why. Kuesu is not a cute name, her chest is too big, and she plays with her hair too often.

Yuuto’s voice is SO ANNOYING. And it’s funny how Himari got completely pwnt.
Durarara!! Episode 06 — Cannibalism? Forlorn love? Celtic headless fairy? Vending-machine-tossing bartender? This anime’s got it all.

To Aru Kagaku no Railgun Episode 19 — You know what I’ve noticed? Uiharu and Saten are better characters than Biribiri and Kuroko.

Uiharu is kawaii, and Tsuchimikado Maika from Index makes her cameo. Of course she only had like 3 frames in Index anyways, so she’s actually getting about the same amount of screentime. The mystery of the mysterious flowers on Uiharu’s head thickens. This episode is actually entertaining, for a change. Now all we need is Touma. Did I just hear a reference to Index? Haha, nobody else’s appetite can match Index’s.

I’m always really picky about how people animate characters playing the violin. This animation is no better. Stupid animators who have no idea what a violin looks like, and no idea how a violin is played. I lol at the song though, nice violin version of the outro.

Anyways… TOUMA SHOWED UP!! YEAHH!

Fairy Tail Episode 18 — Galuna Island arc finally reaches a conclusion.

I had the new Fairy Tail intro stuck in my head this week, too. Catchy and optimistic.

Baka to Test to Shokanjuu Episode 05 — There’s a reason why this is the best of the season.

Baka to Test to Shokanjuu Episode 06 — See above.

Rankings as of today:

 1. Baka to Test to Shokanjuu – Brilliantly unique art style combined with godly humor.
 2. Durarara!! – It’s got it all.
 3. Hanamaru Kindergarten – GAINAX genius channeled into two feet of pudgy chibiness.
 4. Fairy Tail – Reminds me of Mabinogi.
 5. Omamori Himari – No thanks to the obscenity, but barring that and the uncreative plot, the girls are cute.
 6. Dance in the Vampire Bund – I expected so much more.
 7. Kobato – Haven’t watched in a while.
 8. Sora no Woto – I don’t get the point of this anime. The female lead gets cutest character of the season.
 9. To Aru Kagaku no Railgun – This is so boring.
 10. Ookami Kakushi – I dislike the art style, and how everybody in the town has a glasses fetish.
 11. Chu-Bra – No comment.

Some are born great, some achieve greatness, and others have greatness thrust upon them.

January 30th, 2010

To hell with uncreative titles.

Ookamikakushi Episode 03 — Damn glasses fetishists.

Ryukushi07 must have gotten brain cancer or something… this anime is becoming painful to watch. I’m afraid the epic OP song will keep me coming back though… at least until the single comes out. This is like Higurashi lamed down to a 2-year-old scriptwriter’s level.

It’s so obvious that everybody’s drugged up and this is exactly, EXACTLY like Higurashi. I leave it to Ryukushi07 to prove me wrong in a later episode. Please, no homosexuality. Please. And the cicadas chirping in the background. Sigh.

It’s fun that somebody dies at the end of every episode. Less characters = less lost brain cells.

Durarara!! Episode 01 — Finally got to watching this.

The art is low-budget, but I can say this: the storyline has got me going.

This can be Winter 2010’s Bakemonogatari or something. The wordplay isn’t… exactly… Bakemonogatari-style, but it’s still a very fun anime to watch.

Hanamaru Kindergarten Episode 02 — The OP isn’t incredible, but I’ll let that go. I worship this anime.

I worship this anime.

Fairy Tail Episode 15 — Flashbacks and cliffhanger.

Hanamaru Kindergarten Episode 03 — Watching in raw, HD, makes this anime even more godly.

I also like how, like Sora no Otoshimono, each episode has a different, unique ending song and animation.

Durarara!! Episode 02-03 — This is really ranobe. All the characters are enjoyable, and the narration really casts an inquisitive glance upon the meaning of life.

Baka to Test to Shokanjuu Episode 04 — Once again, it’s time for BakaTest!! Waahhhhh so sweet and indulgent.

Durarara!! Episode 04 — A weird “A Day in the Life of” episode, this time featuring the slightly eccentric doctor who lives with our mysterious headless rider.

Railgun Episode 17 — A day in the life of Antiskill. So boring, meaningless, and sucky. Seeing the life of the adults in Index doing… well… not really doing anything… is really boring. And where is my Touma.

“Though some are troublemakers who blow the roof off my house.” <— OMG Index reference. This made wasting 30 minutes on watching this worthwhile. WHAT? It’s Index herself? YAY! And– it’s Aisa. Wahaha.

Dance in the Vampire Bund Episode 04 — This is getting rather stupid.

There is a difference between well-drawn ugly things and bad art.

January 23rd, 2010

It’s been so rainy lately.

Dance in the Vampire Bund Episode 03 — Remember kids: say no to blonde loli vampire queens!

Vampire Bund is SOOO EPIC. SS. [10/10]

Ookamikakushi Episode 02 — Such depressing lyrics. “As soon as I met you, I felt like my life grew shorter.”

The actions of the native characters are almost exactly the same as Higurashi. After all, Satoshi-kun… transferred too. B+. [5.5/10]

Seikon no Qwaser Episode 01 — What, is this a badly-done Japanese horror movie or something?

The song is good; but.. the hell with 60 girls and one guy in the OP animation? That gives me a creepy feeling about what this anime is going to feel like.

Let’s see… so far, one red-haired Haruhi clone, one blue-haired Mikuru clone, and one dog-eared Yuki clone. The most original anime I have ever seen.

Wait… so the storywriters of this must have been fanatical Haruhi fans with a weird yuri Haruhi-Mikuru pairing fetish?

And the class president is a short-haired Reinforce clone! Awesome, so these storywriters are mismatched Nanoha fans too!

It’s interesting how the plot of this anime is centered around Christianity. I wonder how this will turn out. I hope it’ll be somewhat… like Mists of Avalon or Fate/sn I guess.

I wonder if it lowers the voice actor’s intelligence acting like a complete idiot.

It was just getting cool for a moment here, and then… then… …

Oh, and I don’t think God would really appreciate you blowing up his church, mister. Hm, the villain got pwnt so easily, too. Overpowered protagonist much?

Aaand of course the next day he transfers in… and the ending sequence makes me cry… at how horrible the song is. C. [4/10]

Baka to Test to Shokanjuu Episode 03 — This is the best, funniest anime of Winter 10. Also quite possibly the best op animation. Eh, I don’t know. Not as good as Treasure, but not bad.

I love the art style… the outlines, polkadots, it’s such a fun way of drawing anime. It’s probably fun for the animators, and it makes BakaTest really fun to watch.

The ending lyrics are really funny, too. S+. There wasn’t anything I didn’t like about this episode. [9.5/10]

To Aru Kagaku no Railgun Episode 16Railgun is just no fun without Touma. B+. [5.5/10]

Omamori Himari Episode 03 — What’s really good about this anime: the character designs. Of course, overlooking that most of the characters aren’t very original, they’re still very good character designs, coupled with good character art. It’s not a particularly fun or original art style (like BakaTest), however.

It’s utterly stupid how water-demon-green-haired girl… um, Shizuku… suddenly turns from “I want to kill you” to “I like you *flirt* *blush*”. This is the problem with these kinds of animes. The hell with the sudden Higurashi-style frame?

The blonde maid smells like Mahoro! From Mahoromatic! I like that, except… the f*** with the huge chests x_x

I dunno, maybe this can be the new Koihime. A+. [6.5/10]

Best+Worst

January 18th, 2010

Best: Dance in the Vampire Bund

Worst: Chu-Bra

To Aru Kagaku no Railgun Episode 15 – What? No Touma in the new OP?

Bleh, it was a good song, but without Touma Railgun just isn’t right. The new ending song is better than ED1, though.

The “… eh? eh? … … … EHHHHH?” moment at the end was kind of fun. Other than that… Railgun has been rather blah lately. B. [5/10]

Y’know, all they have to do is add a half-second cameo of Touma and I’ll be satisfied. Teehee.

Omamori Himari Episode 02 — Himari is so… flirty. Usually these “weird angel/fairy/demon/Flame Haze” girls are dumber than that. Boring intro song.

I could drown a fish.

I could drown a fish

… FANSERVICE *eyes bleeding*. Please, no more lame swimsuit fanservice. The plot actually seemed interesting for a moment, and here they go ruining it with fanservice left, right, above, and below. I think the “romance” and the entire harem thing is annoying. It hurts to watch anime when 90% of the screentime is devoted to showing the females in sexy poses flirting and tripping over each other to get this one guy to like them.

I think the art of Japanese animation is being ruined by oversized breasts. A. [6/10]

God… lame… laame… Green-haired girl had some screenshottable moments though.

Sora no Woto Episode 01 — “Sorami Kanata” — what a cute name, at the very least. She’s cuter than Yui, too.

What the… what a fantastic intro sequence… I’m pleasantly amazed. Lol, she has perfect pitch. The Mio-copy is cuter than Mio, too. Or, at least, more mature.

I love how this anime has such a serious tone. Such a relief after watching Omamori Himari. No bouncing chests, no obnoxious flirting…

Ugh, I really really like the style (animation style AND story-telling style) of this anime. I’m not saying it’s perfect, and there are a lot of things I didn’t like about this ep that I didn’t bother saying, but this anime generally exceeded my expectations. They were pretty low expectations, I’ll admit (exact K-On! carbon copy or worse), but it’s great how this anime feels. It comes out with a rustic, medieval feel, combined with a more Nanoha-like (not K-On! like) character tone. This is mostly because K-On! is a comedy-focused yonkoma adaptation.

I still can’t say from episode 01, but… AAA. [8/10]

Dance in the Vampire Bund Episode 01 — …. godddd. SS+. [10.5/10]

Chu-Bra Episode 02 — SOMEBODY SHOOT ME NOW [0/10]

Lol, I just watched the best anime of the season, followed by the worst anime of the season, and it’s amazing how big the gap is.

Actually on second thought… ugh… … [-5/10], which would be a… um… F=2, G=1, H=0, I=-1, J=-2, K=-3, L=-4, M. Ahaha.

Ookamikakushi Episode 01 — Ryukushi07 goodness, supposedly.

Most of what I thought about this episode was identical to Kurogane’s (better) review of it. The OP, I must say, is probably the best song I’ve heard so far this season. The first 5 minutes of this… amazing. Unfortunately… it devolved into a generic harem galgame anime quickly.

Imouto-chan (her name is Mana) is very cute… but something about the wheelchair screams “Nunnally clone!!” to me. Actually nevermind, she’s better than Nunnally (who I never really liked in the first place).

Lead heroine… is she? Eww. Tomboy freak. Love at first sight.

The animation is above-par, I am glad to say. Something about “wolf legend” screams Horo slash Spice and Wolf. The dad is a cool character. Mana’s personality is great, too.

This anime needs a Sunohara personality.

Oh my god… Rika copy spotted!

Why the hell is he so popular… “Hassaku matsuri”? Is it just me, or does that sound like Watanagashi (“Cotton Drifting Festival”) from Higurashi? In fact… this sounds so much like Higurashi so far, except Higurashi was better…

Hm, did I just hear cicadas? XDD

That ending… was epic. Also gave me a slight reminder of Shana and how people’s existences were erased and all. And wow, what a great ending song. S+. [9.5/10]

According to the preview… I hope nothing happens to imouto-san :<

Winter 2010, continued

January 14th, 2010

Me says:
How much dirt is there in a 3inx3inx4in hole?
Justin says:
36in3
Me says:
wrong; there is no dirt in a hole

とある科学の超電磁砲 / To Aru Kagaku no Railgun Episode 14 — No Touma.

However, this was a great way to end the Level Upper arc. Which, surprisingly, still hasn’t completely ended apparently.

All this episode really was, though, was characters from To Aru Majutsu no Index making cameo appearances and saying one or two cool lines that are supposed to be inspirational. A+. [6.5/10]

Fairy Tail Episode 13 — Natsu versus badguys was cool. Lucy’s battle was facepalm-inducing. C. [4/5]

Omamori Himari Episode 01 — Not bad. Too much fanservice…

This anime feels like a combination of elements from various animes: the main character looks like Mai (Kanon), the main character’s childhood friend is like Yuuka (11eyes) and Mai doubles as Kusakabe-senpai, the school scenes totally remind me of Da Capo, and actually, the childhood friend reminds me more of Nemu (Da Capo) than Yuuka. The aka–whatever… the spirit/demon/things… they remind me of the Tayutai from Tayutama (except not as cute). Of course, as many have stated, the premise is also similar to Shakugan no Shana, although in my opinion they aren’t that similar.

Geez, this week’s anime have all been failures so far. B. [5/10]

Baka to Test to Shokanjuu Episode 02 — Once again, enjoyable intro animation.

Lawll… “knowledge literally is power” ><; I like the setting, camera positions, and overall animation flow of this anime. It reminds me of a whole lot of things that I don’t feel like blogging about.

Wow… this is TOTALLY the next Seitokai. That conversation with Himeji was more Seitokai than Seitokai.

Hm, the “summoning” thing is still kind of borderline stupid, though. I guess it’s original though; instead of Index-style telekinesis or magic or whatnot.

Of course, this anime doesn’t take its own plot seriously so it barely matters. The ending was so LAWL… Best anime this season. Actually… only good anime this season. SS. [10/10]

Hanamaru Kindergarten Episode 01 — THIS. IS. THE. CUTEST. THING. THAT. HAS. EVER. BEEN. MADE.

They have outdone themselves again… first Evangelion, then FLCL, Tengen Toppa Gurren Lagann, and the like… and now they are mowing through the competition with their newest work, Hanamaru Kindergarten. GAINAX can’t get any awesomer than this.

However, not only are the kindergartners cute, with unique, appealing character designs, but the adults also possess a wide variety of personalities, and their relationships tie in with the children’s antics to provide a most entertaining episode.

The adult lead has an entertaining personality… it has a rather Watanuki-kun feel to it, and he even looks 99.9% similar to Watanuki.

Anzu and her mother’s relationship to the lead is especially entertaining. Anzu’s mother was his upperclassman in high school; I think he liked her. Their parting words, or something, was that “My child will grow up to be just like me!” And five years later or something, we realize how true those words are >.<

Anzu’s character is inexplicable. Her two kindergarten friends so far include Hiiragi (who is chibi Ichijou, 100.1%) and… that shy girl. Forgot her name.

Ugh… so overflowingly cute. SS. [10/10]

I have to study for finals now, so I’ll save the rest of my pile of winter 2010 animes for… um… sometime later.
